Disney College Program

Seater - Ohana at the Polynesian Resort

Spring 2022

I had the honor to be selected as a participant in the Disney College Program. I remember being so excited to submit my application for the program and waited eagerly for weeks to hear if my application made it to the next step. Before I submitted my application, I worked diligently on my work experience to help build my resume to better my chances.

I finally received the email that I had passed all qualifications and that my location and position would be sent out to me soon! I would do research on all the positions the DCP had to offer and I knew regardless of where I was placed that it would be an awesome experience. After a few short weeks, I received my placement and I would be at the well-known restaurant, Ohana.

Ohana was unlike any restaurant I had ever visited. It was filled with magic and well-made systems to keep the restaurant afloat during busy times. Before I knew it, my fellow cast members started to feel like my Ohana. I created meaningful friendships during my six months. Whether I was creating relationships or making magic for my guests, it was always a good time whenever I was at work.

Even though my job title was listed as Seater I was also a Bar Back, Podium (check-in), and Stocker. When I was a Seater, I would get a notification from our table assigner, introduce the experience, and escort families to their table. When I was a Bar Back, I would make sure that the bar had all the necessary ingredients and glassware they needed to complete their job. When I was running the Podium, I would be the first face that families would see. It was my job to make the necessary changes to reservations in order for larger families to sit with each other as well as running our walk-in list. This was easily my favorite part of my program. I loved being organized and helping set up families to ensure they could sit with each other when possible. I also had to have great communication with the assigner and work closely with them to ensure there was no confusion about reservations. Lastly, when it came to the stocking position, I would make sure to rotate out products that were close to expiration and roll silverware in my free time.

Overall, my DCP experience was fantastic. It allowed me to have the option to move out of my home state and experience a different way of life. I would highly recommend applying for the DCP to anyone that is interested in working for Disney and gaining amazing customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
